Did you know that insects like dragonflies and damselflies start their life underwater? Benthic invertebrates may be commonly known as bugs. They include aquatic insects, worms, mollusks, and crustaceans that live at the bottom of a waterbody for a certain period of their life cycle. Benthic invertebrates are good indicators of water quality and habitat health. The species you find can tell you a lot about potential stressors a waterbody might be facing. Come out for a hands-on exploration of benthic invertebrates with ecologist Zachary Anderson. Get your hands dirty exploring all the weird and wonderful benthic invertebrates that call our Ontario waterbodies home.
