Passport to Nature: Buds and Bark

Tree trunk with peeling bark; blurred green leaves and tree branches in background; photo credit to Glenn Berry in bottom left corner; Passport to Nature logo in top right cornerWith Bernie VanDenBelt

While the leaves of trees command our attention much of the year, their absence in winter brings buds and bark into greater prominence. Dust off your snowshoes and join tree enthusiast and retired educator Bernie VanDenBelt for a leisurely mid-winter exploration of TTLT’s Meadowlily Nature Preserve in southeast London. Our route will include some areas of the site often overlooked by hikers. In addition to using buds and bark for tree identification, we will also watch for other wintry wonders of nature. The hike will proceed even if there is insufficient snow for snowshoeing.

Please let us know if you require a pair of snowshoes!
