Passport to Nature: Maples and Mastodons

Wetland landscape with the Passport to Nature logo in the top left corner and a photo credit to Cathy Quinlan in the bottom left cornerWith Earth Scientist Desmond Moser at Five Points Forest

The Ridgeview Wetlands portion of Five Points Forest flanks a ridge of coarse, glacially deposited sediment laid down when mastodons roamed nearby. While learning about today's diverse ecosystem, we will take a walk through time, seeing evidence left by retreating ice lobes, and their rising and falling lakes. Enjoy a cornucopia of fall Carolinian colours on a land conceived of continental changes, stewarded by Indigenous peoples, and still holding its earthly beauty.
