Background:

MapleCross - Bass Woods is located in West Elgin, just 13 kilometres from Wardsville Woods, another parcel protected by TTLT. The name of this nature reserve honors the generous MapleCross funding that allowed TTLT to purchase the nature reserve, as well as the Bass family that had stewarded the land for generations.

Description:

MapleCross - Bass Woods is a 29.68 hectare (73.34 acre) parcel featuring a mature intact forest and a meadow alongside a small agricultural field. The forest contains Black Maple, Blue Ash, Sugar Maple, and Basswood. In the meadow, grassland species such as Wild Bergamot, Little Bluestem, and Thimbleweed bloom. The site’s unique landscape and location along the Thames River makes it valuable for erosion control, water filtration, and as habitat for species at risk.
