The Hawk Cliff Woods Migration Weekends (formerly Hawk Cliff Weekends) is back! This year, we are offering two virtual presentations leading up to the weekends. Although, we won't be together in person, we strongly encourage you to visit Hawk Cliff Woods during the weekends of September 18-19 and 25-26 to see the hawk and Monarch migrations on your own. For the first presentation in the series, we welcome Will Weber to present "Surviving the Winds of Climate Change". Will's presentation looks at how the consequences of climate change influence bird populations, in particular raptor populations. He explores the trends based on the last 30 years of bird migration data and provides some suggestions for how we can help our feathered friends under the threat of climate change, followed by a Q&A.
Will Weber has been a birder since the age of 10. As a US Peace Corps volunteer and staff member, he served three and a half years in programs of science and conservation education in Nepal. He has a Ph.D. in Natural Resources from the University of Michigan. In 1978, he cofounded Journeys International Inc., one of the first ecotravel companies. He has organized and led more than 120 nature and culture, small group expeditions to Asia, Africa, Latin America and the Pacific. He is currently Climate Committee chair of the Hawk Migration Association of North America of which he has been a member since 1976. He was a founding member of the Holiday Beach Migration Observatory and is currently on the board of advisers of the Detroit River Hawk Watch. He lives in Ann Arbor, Michigan.
