This FREE celebration event will kick off with a short dedication ceremony followed by mingling over delicious light refreshments catered by Appin BBQ Service & Catering. About Gillies Nature Tract
The Gillies Nature Tract contains 23 hectares (56 acres) of interior forest and is a mixture of upland forest (85%) and Provincially Significant Wetland (15%). The extensive woodland provides home to a number of area sensitive forest breeding birds including several Species at Risk. The upland forest is a diverse deciduous forest with American Beech, Silver Maple, Eastern Cottonwood, White Ash and several oak species. The forested areas contain a wide diversity of herbaceous plants such as violets, ferns, jack-in-the-pulpit. The wetlands include smaller silver maple swamps and a large cattail marsh. The wetlands are home to many amphibians and reptiles.
