Nature for Nurture is a free program offered in partnership with CMHA Middlesex. It aims to improve the wellbeing of both people and the environment!

Spring 2019 Schedule

Please wear comfortable shoes for hiking (hiking shoes, athletic shoes etc.) and dress for the weather.

Remember to bring water, sunscreen, and bug spray.

Please note: You do not have to register for the regular weekly walks. However, please register in advance for the bus trips. To do so please follow the registration link under each event.

April – Downtown

Difficulty Level: EASY
Part of the Thames River Trail and Parkway which are both a moderately trafficked trail. The trail runs along the Thames River and is good for all skill levels. The path is paved and accessible.

9th: 11-12pm Meet in front of Rhino at Museum London – 421 Ridout St N

16th: 11-12pm Meet in front of Rhino at Museum London – 421 Ridout St N

23rd: 11-12pm Meet in front of Rhino at Museum London – 421 Ridout St N

May – Springbank

Difficulty Level: EASY
Part of the Thames River Trail which is a moderately trafficked trail. The trail runs along the Thames River and is good for all skill levels. The path is paved and accessible.

7th: 11-12pm Meet in front of the Community Centre – 205 Wonderland Rd. S

14th: 9am-2pm BUS TRIP to Newport Forest. Meet at the plaza on the corner of Wellington & Commissioners – beside East Side Mario’s 387 Wellington Rd

Newport Forest lies along the Thames River near Wardsville, ON. The trail is medium difficulty with a few hills, and approximately 2km in length so we can take a gentle pace. Look forward to seeing the spring woodland flowers including bluebells. If time permits we will also learn about and pull invasive Garlic Mustard plants. Please RSVP here.

28th: 9am-2pm BUS TRIP to Joany's Woods. Meet at the plaza on the corner of Wellington & Commissioners – beside East Side
Mario’s 387 Wellington Rd

Joany's Woods lies along the Ausable River near Parkhill, ON. The trail is medium difficulty with some hills and just over 3km so we will take a more moderate pace. We'll see some different habitats here including forests, plantations, meadows and wetlands. Please RSVP here.

 

June – Meadowlily Trail

Difficulty Level: Moderate

Meadowlily is a 3.1 moderately trafficked loop trail that features a river. The trail is primarily used for hiking, walking, trail running and nature trips. Best used from April- October. Path is unpaved.

11th: 9am-2pm BUS TRIP to Hawk Cliff Woods. Meet at the plaza on the corner of Wellington & Commissioners – beside East Side
Mario’s 387 Wellington Rd.

Hawk Cliff Woods Hawk Cliff Woods sits on the shore of Lake Erie near Port Stanley, ON. The trail is easy and about 2km for a gentle pace. We will walk in the meadow and through the woods, and finish up at the wildflower garden. We will then plant flowers in the garden and have a "focus group" discussion. Please RSVP here.

July – Medway Forest Trail

Difficulty Level: EASY
Medway Forest trail is a 7.7 km lightly trafficked loop trail that features a great forest setting. The trail is good for all skill levels and primarily used for hiking, walking, trail running, and snowshoeing. Path is unpaved

August – Warbler Woods

Difficulty Level: Moderate
Warbler is a 3.4 Km lightly trafficked out and back trail. The trail is good for all skill levels and primarily
used for hiking, walking and trail running. Path is unpaved.
