Cyril Crocker - Coordinator of the Hawk Cliff Raptor Banders

"From my very first steps as a child, I was interested in the natural world. From birds to reptiles and insects I drove my mother crazy wondering what I had put in my pockets of my coat or pants.

Birds were of particular interest, so as a young adult I joined the St. Thomas Field Naturalist Club. I soon became friends with Bob Hubert who introduced me to banding ducks and bluebirds back in 1983. In the fall of the same year, I was asked by Bob along with Don and Sheila Fowler to join them at Hawk Cliff to see if I would be interested in banding hawks. From the very first day, I was hooked. Birds of prey have always fascinated me and after I apprenticed for two years, I received my banding license and I have been banding there ever since. Even though I have banded over 4,500 birds of prey, I have never lost my interest or wonder over these beautiful, yet despised and misunderstood birds."
